Flight delays are unbearable because you obviously just want to get to where you want to go and the uncertainty is infuriating; the wait literally makes you itch at times. But it doesn’t have to be that way, there are certainly a number of things you can do while you’re stuck midway through your journey to your final destination.

Legal Rights and Insurance

As outrageous as it sounds, flight delays are not covered by many federal laws so make it a point to always educate yourself on how your airline handles and deals with such matters. Doing so will allow you to handle any further complications that come your way and allow you to be as stress-free as possible. Insuring yourself is also highly advisable since delays often lead to other complications such as lost/delayed luggage. It could also protect you against any legal loop holes that airlines may attempt to use in order to get away easy.

Charge Up

Making sure your smartphone and other carry-on electronic devices are charged is essential for a number of reasons so make sure you’re keeping your juices up or locate a nearby charging port if they are running low. You are going to need your phone to inform your family member/friend of your flight delay and also keep them updated on any changes. You can also receive instant updates from your airline on the status of your delayed flight and keep yourself informed on new schedules or compensations they could be offering. Most importantly, you will need your smartphone to keep yourself entertained! You do not want to be stuck to be stuck at a strange airport without access to Wi-Fi to keep yourself occupied in this moment of crisis.

Since you are going to be stuck there for a while anyway, you may as well make a little adventure out of it. Most airports are massive so get off your feet and explore! Even the most international airports are inspired by the local culture and this will give you the opportunity to experience at least a tiny part of it during your (hopefully) brief stay. You will find numerous souvenir shops that just might have something that you fancy, you just might also come across a couple of restaurants that serve the local cuisine that you could try to literally get a taste of the local culture. If you are incredibly unlucky and it turns out that your flight will be delayed by more than a couple of hours, you could (if your visa allows it) leave the airport and explore the city just to make the best of your bad situation. Of course, this would involve you going through immigration and customs and then hiring Melbourne airport transfers and then going back through security once you arrive back at the airport in time for the next leg in your journey, but it sure would beat lying around waiting for your flight.

Flight delays can be very frustrating but it doesn’t have to be, a good traveller will make the best out of anything and see opportunity though it may initially seem like an obstacle.
